John was appointed to the National Apprenticeship Service – North East Region in February 2009 having previously been the Area Director of Northumberland and Tyne and Wear for the North East Region Learning and Skills Council. Prior to that John was the Director of Programmes and Operations.
For the last 25 years John has worked in the public service sector and has held senior positions in the Learning and Skills Council, Sunderland City Training and Enterprise Council, the Training Agency North East and the Employment Department during which he has specialised in Post 16 learning, education and skills programmes for young people and adults. John is passionate about Apprenticeships and the role they have in addressing the skills needs of the economy, having seen the positive impact the programme has made to Apprentices and their employers over the last 10 years.
During the last 15 years John has had considerable experience of partnership development and has been involved in working with both public and private sector partners delivering innovative regeneration projects in the North East region. He was a member of the Sunderland Education Leadership Board, Sunderland Association Football Club Foundation Education Board, Newcastle Science City Education Steering Group and has represented the LSC on the Tyne and Wear City Region Interim Board.
