Ian has been Principal of Leeds College of Building since 2004. It is the only further education college specialising in construction and the built environment in the UK.
The College offers practical craft, technician and management courses to over 6,000 students from basic skills to degree level on six sites across Leeds and West Yorkshire.
The College was recently inspected by OfSTED (October 2006) and all aspects of College activity were either 1 (Outstanding) or 2 (Good).
Leeds College of Building has been awarded three DfES full CoVEs in Construction, Services and Enterprise and with a turnover of £17 million is the largest FE provider of construction education and training in the sector.
Ian’s background is that of a building surveyor but started his life as mining surveyor, with English China Clays, in the South West of England. He has also worked with the Local Authority and contracting companies.
His education career started in the North East at Darlington College of Technology and progressed to Head of Department at Bolton College and Dean of Faculty at Boston College before joining Leeds College of Building as Vice Principal in 1996.
